What this calculator measures
The discount tool subtracts a percentage of the original price and displays both savings and final price.
Formula
Final Price = Original Price x (1 - Discount %); Saved = Original Price x Discount %
Worked example
- 1A 20% discount on $250 saves $50.
- 2The final price is $200.
How to interpret the result
Taxes, shipping, coupons, and sequential discounts may be applied separately by the seller.
Common mistakes and limits
- Adding sequential percentages together, applying the rate after tax incorrectly, or entering 20 as $20.
Frequently asked questions
Are two 20% discounts equal to 40%?
No. Applied sequentially, the second discount uses the already reduced price.
Does this include sales tax?
No, unless the original price already includes it.
Can discount exceed 100%?
No. The input is limited to 100%.
